BREAST THERMOGRAPHY IS HOT!

They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words and that is certainly true about Thermography.  Thermography is the process of measuring heat with an infrared imaging device.  Heat is an indication that inflammation is present, and typically inflammation is present in precancerous and cancerous cells too.

THERMOGRAPHY is a wonderful breast health screening tool which can truly be considered as preventative AND potentially life-saving!

Mammograms (x-ray), MRIs or ultrasound are used to identify masses that have grown to a detectable size. Infra-red thermography on the other hand, detects subtle blood vessel changes long before a mass is even detectable using these conventional imaging methods. Thermography can identify these blood vessel changes that are known to be present prior to, or in the very early stages of the formation of a breast cancer providing a considerably longer lead time on diagnosis.

The procedure is based on the principle that chemical and blood vessel activity in both pre-cancerous tissue and the area surrounding a developing breast cancer is almost always higher than in the normal breast. Since pre-cancerous and cancerous masses are highly metabolic tissues, they need an abundant supply of nutrients to maintain their growth. In order to do this they increase circulation to their cells by sending out chemicals to keep existing blood vessels open, recruit dormant vessels, and create new ones (neo-angiogenesis). This process results in an increase in regional surface temperatures of the breast which in turn is detectable by thermography.

Breast Thermography is also a valuable screening tool for monitoring hormonal imbalances as there is a significant correlation between an estrogen dominant state and breast cancer risk.  Understanding this link between hormone balance and breast health is important for every woman to know. Breast thermography is an inexpensive and easy way to increase your chance of finding breast cancer early, or better yet finding changes so early you might intervene and stop cancer before it really gets started.
