Do I need a referral from my family doctor?

If you have a referral from your family doctor, a consultation note will be sent from the Institute for Hormonal Health to your doctor to be part of your medical record. However, a referral from your family doctor is not necessary.

What do I need to do before my appointment?

All you need to do is complete our online intake questionnaire that is sent to you in your welcome email.  This questionnaire will review your medical history, current symptoms, and health care goals and this information will be used to guide your discussion with your IHH Practitioners at your initial consult.

What advantage is there to see a naturopath and a medical doctor?

Hormonal issues are very complex and need to be addressed from multiple angles. At the Institute for Hormonal Health, we have a complement of practitioners that are outstanding in their areas of expertise. Their combined efforts make for fantastic results.

When can I expect to start feeling better?

Depending on the particular hormonal imbalance and the degree of complexity of your problem, most will notice an improvement within three months after targeted treatment. Approximately 70% of patients are feeling 70% better three months after the results appointment when targeted treatment begins.

I am already on bio-identical hormones. What can the Institute for Hormonal Health offer me?

Often patients who are prescribed bio-identical hormones are on supra-physiologic doses (above the normal range) particularly if blood testing or no testing was used to determine sex hormone levels. Supra-physiologic doses can be harmful to you. It is for this reason that at the Institute for Hormonal Health we test sex hormones in dried urine (Gold Standard) to determine your specific needs and to tailor your dose to be within a physiologic range.

Can any pharmacy fill my bio-identical hormone prescription?

Because your prescription for bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is compounded, you must have it filled by a pharmacy that specializes in compounding medications. Your prescription is unique to you and is therefore individually formulated and prepared each time. This can take a few days, so please be patient with your compounding pharmacy.

What expenses can I expect?

Many of the consultations, investigations, and treatments required for a successful treatment program are not covered by OHIP, but may be covered by your private health insurance plan. Please contact your health insurance provider to find out whether naturopathic consultations and hormone testing are covered by your plan. If your case is particularly complicated, investigations may have additional costs. Any recommended nutraceuticals, vitamins, or supplements can be purchased through the Institute for Hormonal Health for your convenience. The cost of compounded bio-identical hormones is paid directly to the compounding pharmacy of your choice. We will be able to give you a much clearer answer at your first visit when we have an idea of your specific hormonal issues.

Is the program covered by OHIP?

The visits with the medical doctor are partly covered by provincial health insurance. However, there are uninsured services provided by your IHH doctor that is not covered by provincial health insurance and will be your responsibility to pay. The consultations with any IHH-certified practitioners are not covered by provincial health insurance, nor are testing kits. Parts of the program may be covered by your private health insurance plan. Please contact your health insurance provider to find out what your plan includes.
